The Conscious Choice

What is it about this day in age that allows people to make positive conscious choices when it comes to purchases? There was a time on this earth, oh not so long ago, that most of humanity cared very little about purchasing and disposing. Sure, they cared about making purchases and ridding themselves of waste, but that care factor did not include the environment. Little thought went into old Mother Nature.

We (as humans) all were well aware that the environment existed; it is just a well-known fact that what surrounds us is an environment. As it would turn out, the word can actually be broken down into things that we need to exist, and should probably not expunge. Thankfully, now, the popular choice is the choice to be a contributor; to be the one trying to make a difference. Even the most stubborn of individuals cannot totally ignore the blue bin that must be pushed to the end of their driveway once a week.

Had the pushy environmental groups, crazy activist groups, and nutty scientific study leaders finally done enough to enlighten society to the point where they realized change was necessary? Or is it a trend? I would say it is the whole necessity thing. The key word in today’s society is progressive. Being progressive can come in many different forms. You can be progressive in anything from fashion to waste removal. The point of the word is really about moving forward.

Michael-Jackson-Heal-The-World-michael-jackson-28111542-1600-1200 There was a time, when it felt like as a society we were moving forward, when in fact we were destroying. Destroying may not be the exact opposite to the word progressive, but it certainly sets something in reverse. The amount of damage that was being done to our earth by our “forward moving creations” really forced us to make better choices.

Now, it would seem there is not a desperate need to make a progressive choice, but a formidable pressure to do so. I say formidable, because it is a pressure that should be welcomed, and is the right amount. Nobody is saying your hoodie should result in trees being planted, but….it sure would be nice if it did! Nobody is saying you need to recycle your cardboard, but….that would certainly be lovely if you visited a green bin from time to time. You see what I mean?

Society has done a great job at intertwining media, marketing, and formidable pressure to make being down with the notorious environment the right way to be. Just the simple use of social media outlets, such as Twitter, creates a strong message from person to person that there is absolutely a proper way to maintain and sustain.

In almost every avenue of purchase there is the option that will most certainly help this world of ours more than another. Everyday someone puts on display a progressive option, and makes it available for the consumer or client to make a positive conscious choice. Nobody is asking each member of society to be a hippie, because man is it hard to know the difference between a hippie and a hipster. That’s why we all make the right choices!

As you can see by the amount of great looking Instagram pictures on tentree’s homepage, many people have made the conscious choice to be progressive, and are proud enough of it to show it off through social media. To me, this is the formidable pressure. It’s saying “Hey, I look top drawer right now, and I’m also doing a great thing. You probably should too.” It gets to the point where that pressure is lifted though, because you have already made the conscious choice on your own. We will all get there.
